Best Memory Foam Mattresses

A memory foam mattress is the right buy if you want pressure relief at the shoulders and hips and a bed that keeps a partner's movement on their side, but the same slow, contouring foam is what makes some models sleep hot or feel like quicksand. We weigh how much memory foam sits in the top layer, how warm it runs, how firm it really is and what a Queen costs on its regular terms. The ranking below shows which memory foam mattress fits side, back and hot sleepers, from budget all-foam beds to premium slow-sink models.

Best Memory Foam Mattresses: every pick reviewed

Nectar Premier Memory Foam
Nectar Premier Memory FoamNectar Premier Memory FoamNectar Premier Memory Foam
Best overall

Nectar Premier Memory Foam

Two inches of memory foam over 11 inches of support foam give the Nectar Premier the balance most memory foam buyers want: the shoulders and hips sink in while the lower back stays level. That is twice the memory foam of the Nectar Classic. The 13-inch build still feels medium-firm, so back, side and combination sleepers all land well on it, and a Queen costs $999. It ties the Leesa Original on our overall score and takes first place because its memory foam sits right under you, which gives the deeper pressure relief most people buy memory foam for.

Pros
  • Thick 13-inch profile at a mid-range price
  • Supportive enough for back sleepers
  • 365 nights to try it, lifetime warranty
Cons
  • Holds some heat, as most memory foam does
  • Slow to respond when you change position

Leesa Original Mattress
Leesa Original MattressLeesa Original MattressLeesa Original Mattress
Best cooling option

Leesa Original Mattress

Hot sleepers who still want memory foam should start with the Leesa Original. Leesa tops its 2 inches of memory foam with 2 inches of GreenFlex, a plant-based foam it says breathes better than conventional memory foam, so the surface springs back before the contouring starts. The regular Queen price is $1,332, and it is one of the quietest beds here when a partner tosses and turns.

Pros
  • Springy surface, no stuck feeling
  • Partner moves, you barely notice
  • Medium feel suits most positions
Cons
  • Less sink than a classic memory foam bed
  • Edges dip when you sit on them
  • The cooler quilted top costs extra

Layla Memory Foam Mattress
Layla Memory Foam MattressLayla Memory Foam MattressLayla Memory Foam Mattress
Best flippable option

Layla Memory Foam Mattress

The Layla has a medium-soft side for side sleepers and a medium-firm side for back sleepers, so if you are unsure which firmness you need, you flip it instead of sending it back. Its copper-infused memory foam, which Layla says draws off some heat, is a 3.5 lb grade the brand rates denser than traditional memory foam, and a lifetime warranty covers sagging deeper than 1 inch. Before any sale, a Queen lists at $1,149.

Pros
  • Copper-infused foam to shed some heat
  • Zip-off cover you can wash
  • Made in the USA
Cons
  • Heavier stomach sleepers sink on both sides
  • Little bounce when you change position
  • Four weeks on it before a return is accepted

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress
Amerisleep AS3 MattressAmerisleep AS3 MattressAmerisleep AS3 Mattress
Best for side sleepers

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress

Side sleepers who find classic memory foam too slow should look at the AS3. Amerisleep's Bio-Pur is a plant-based memory foam made to rebound faster, and the zoned HIVE layer beneath it is built to give more at the shoulders and hold the hips. At a regular $1,749 for a Queen it is not cheap, though Amerisleep often sells it for less. More options for your position are in our best mattresses for side sleepers.

Pros
  • Medium feel works for back sleeping too
  • 20-year warranty
Cons
  • Too soft for stomach sleepers
  • Only 100 nights to decide

Nectar Classic Memory Foam
Nectar Classic Memory FoamNectar Classic Memory FoamNectar Classic Memory Foam
Best firm option

Nectar Classic Memory Foam

The Nectar Classic is the firm memory foam mattress, for back and stomach sleepers who want some contouring without the sink. Its single inch of memory foam sits on 11 inches of support foam, and Nectar itself describes the result as firm. At $699 for a Queen it is the least expensive way into Nectar's memory foam line. If most memory foam has felt too soft to you, this is the one to try.

Pros
  • Firm, flat support for stomach sleepers
  • Contouring without a deep sink
  • Low price for a 12-inch mattress
Cons
  • Shoulders press hard when you lie on your side
  • Only a thin layer of memory foam

Bear Original Mattress
Bear Original MattressBear Original MattressBear Original Mattress
Best for back sleepers

Bear Original Mattress

Back sleepers need the hips held level, and that is where the Bear Original earns its place. A gel-swirl memory foam layer and a responsive foam sit on a 6-inch high-density base, which Bear rates 6.5 to 7 out of 10 for firmness. Bear charges $998 for a Queen and gives you 365 nights to return it, but only after the first 30. Readers with a sore back can compare it with our mattresses for back pain.

Pros
  • Keeps the hips level on your back
  • Firm enough for stomach sleeping too
  • Little sinking for a memory foam bed
Cons
  • Less contouring than the softer picks
  • Petite sleepers may find it hard

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-AdaptTempur-Pedic TEMPUR-AdaptTempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt
Best premium pick

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt

The TEMPUR-Adapt is the premium choice for buyers who want memory foam at its most classic, a slow foam that molds to you and holds the shape for a moment after you move. The 11-inch medium model spreads pressure evenly for back and side sleepers, and a cool-to-the-touch cover takes the edge off the warmth. Its price and paid returns hold it back, at $2,299 for the Queen with a fee on any return inside the 90-night trial.

Pros
  • Deep, even pressure relief
  • Molds closely to your shape
  • Cover feels cool when you lie down
Cons
  • Highest Queen price on this page
  • Harder to roll over than on quicker foams

Siena Signature 12″ Memory Foam
Siena Signature 12″ Memory FoamSiena Signature 12″ Memory FoamSiena Signature 12″ Memory Foam
Best budget pick

Siena Signature 12″ Memory Foam

Siena comes from Resident, the company behind Nectar, and its 12-inch model is the cheapest memory foam mattress we rank. It also makes a sensible guest-room bed, where occasional sleepers get a soft, cushioned top of 2 inches of charcoal-infused memory foam and you are not paying a premium for a bed used a few nights a month. A Queen costs $379, and Siena still allows 180 nights to send it back.

Pros
  • Easy on a tight budget
  • Softer 12-inch feel for side sleepers
Cons
  • Heavier sleepers will feel the base sooner
  • 10-year warranty, shorter than Nectar's
  • Can sleep warm

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Pick the memory foam layer by your sleeping position: back sleepers do best with a thin layer over firm support, side sleepers with a thick one that lets the shoulder sink in.”

Memory foam or hybrid

An all-foam memory foam mattress gives the deepest contouring and the quietest bed for couples, because there are no coils to pass movement across. A hybrid puts a similar comfort foam over pocketed coils, which adds bounce and firmer edges; our best hybrid mattresses ranking covers that side of the market.

Match the firmness to how you sleep

Memory foam softens a little as it warms to your body, so a model that feels firm when you first lie down reads softer by morning. Side sleepers usually do best between 4 and 6 on our 1-10 scale, back sleepers between 6 and 8, and stomach sleepers at 7 or above. The table puts the picks side by side. Its prices are regular list prices; Amerisleep, Layla and Leesa were all selling below them at the end of October 2026.

Mattress Our firmness (1-10) Height Trial Regular Queen price
Nectar Premier Memory Foam 6 13 in 365 nights $999
Leesa Original 5 10 in 365 nights $1,332
Layla Memory Foam Medium-soft side and medium-firm side 10.5 in 120 nights $1,149
Amerisleep AS3 5 12 in 100 nights $1,749
Nectar Classic Memory Foam 8 12 in 365 nights $699
Bear Original 7 10 in 365 nights, keep it 30 first $998
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt 5 11 in 90 nights, return fee $2,299
Siena Signature 12″ Memory Foam 5 12 in 180 nights $379

How to keep memory foam cooler

Memory foam reacts to body heat and breathes less than a layer of coils, which is why hot sleepers are its most common critics. Gel, copper and graphite infusions draw some heat away from the surface, but two things matter more: a cool-touch or breathable cover, and a responsive foam on top of the memory foam rather than underneath it, which is how the Leesa Original is built. If you wake up warm on every foam bed you have owned, a hybrid is the better bet, because its coils add the airflow foam cannot.

Budget and the trial small print

Below about $500 for a Queen, memory foam mattresses keep the price down with thinner comfort layers, lighter base foams and shorter warranties, which matters most for heavier sleepers and for a bed you plan to keep for many years. Above that, read the trial before the price. A 365-night refund trial and a 90-night trial with a return fee are very different safety nets, and some brands ask you to sleep on the mattress for 30 nights or four weeks before they accept a return. Methodology

How we rate

Every mattress in this ranking is an all-foam memory foam mattress, which rules out spring beds with a token foam layer. Memory foam is viscoelastic, and NASA’s Spinoff report describes how the original “slow spring back foam” from a 1966 airline-seat project matched the contour of the body pressing on it and only slowly returned to shape. That slow response is what we judge, along with its side effects.

  • Memory foam layer. How much of it there is and where it sits. Thick memory foam on top means a deep sink; a thin layer means you move more freely.
  • Heat. The cover fabric, any gel, copper or graphite infusion, and the temperature score that follows from them.
  • Firmness and support. The brand’s stated firmness, placed on our 1-10 scale, and how much support foam carries the comfort layers.
  • Price and terms. The regular Queen price at the brand’s US store (checked October 2026), the trial length, whether returns are free, and the warranty.

The overall score weighs comfort at 30%, support at 25%, temperature at 15% and value at 30%. When two picks tie, the one with more memory foam directly under the sleeper ranks higher, because pressure relief is what this category is bought for. Every pick uses foam certified by CertiPUR-US, whose independent, accredited labs check foam for content, emissions and durability.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are memory foam mattresses good?

Yes, for side sleepers, couples and anyone with pressure points at the shoulders or hips, because memory foam spreads your weight and absorbs movement better than coils. They are a weaker fit if you sleep hot or prefer a bouncy surface that makes changing position easy.

Which memory foam mattress is the best?

The Nectar Premier Memory Foam is our best memory foam mattress overall, with 2 inches of memory foam in a 13-inch, medium-firm build that suits back, side and combination sleepers. A Queen costs $999 with a 365-night trial.

Memory foam vs hybrid mattress, which should you choose?

Choose memory foam for the deepest pressure relief and the least motion transfer, and a hybrid for more bounce, firmer edges and better airflow. Heavier sleepers and hot sleepers usually do better on a hybrid. If you share the bed and wake each other up, all-foam is the safer bet.

What is the best cooling memory foam mattress?

The Leesa Original is our cooling pick, because its memory foam sits under a 2-inch GreenFlex top layer instead of directly against your body. Its regular Queen price is $1,332.

What is the best firm memory foam mattress?

The Nectar Classic Memory Foam is the firmest mattress in our ranking, an 8 on our 1-10 scale, with only 1 inch of memory foam over 11 inches of support foam. It suits back and stomach sleepers and costs $699 in a Queen.

What is the best budget memory foam mattress?

Our budget pick is the Siena Signature 12″ Memory Foam, at $379 for a Queen with 2 inches of charcoal-infused memory foam and a 180-night trial.
