The ComfortMode is the cheapest way into a Sleep Number bed in 2026. It is a 10-inch (25 cm) mattress with a plush knit cover, a foam comfort layer about 3.5 inches deep and adjustable air chambers underneath. A remote sets the firmness, and on a Queen or larger each side gets its own number, so one of you can sleep on a firm surface while the other sinks in.

Sleep Number calls the build a hybrid of foam and air. The foam handles pressure relief at the hips and shoulders, the air does the support. Responsive Air, included at this level, nudges the chambers during the night so the setting you chose stays the same as you shift position.

What you give up against the Sleep Number ComfortNext, $2,999 in a Queen, is the smart part: no app, no sleep tracking, and less cooling material in the foam. If you tend to sleep hot, the thinner cooling is the bigger loss. If you just want a bed where two people stop arguing about firmness, the missing app hardly matters.

A Queen costs $1,999 for the mattress alone at Sleep Number’s regular price. It will not sit on a standard box spring, so add the Foundation or an adjustable base to your budget. The 100-night trial applies, but a return costs a $250 pickup fee.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Buy the ComfortMode if the two of you want different firmness and you do not care about sleep data. It delivers the core Sleep Number idea at the lowest price in the range. Hot sleepers should look one step up.”
