Who makes Sleep Number beds

Sleep Number Corporation is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and runs its own manufacturing and distribution sites in South Carolina and Utah. In a news release dated March 12, 2026, the company points to almost 40 years of history, more than 1,000 patents and patents pending, and about 600 stores; its mattresses are sold only in those stores and on SleepNumber.com. You may know the brand as Select Comfort, the name on many older beds and still a registered trademark of the same company.

How the beds work

Every Sleep Number mattress puts foam comfort layers over adjustable air chambers. You pick a number, higher for firmer and lower for softer, and on two-person sizes each side keeps its own setting. The entry ComfortMode beds use a remote; the ComfortNext and Climate beds are run from the SleepIQ app and track your sleep. One practical catch: Sleep Number says a traditional box spring does not support the air chambers properly, so you need its Foundation, an adjustable base or a solid platform.

The 2026 lineup

The March 2026 reset replaced the Classic, Performance and Innovation series, including the older c2, p5 and i8 models, with the three collections below.

Lux and Ultra in the ComfortNext collection use what Sleep Number calls a Tri-Brid build, with micro coils between the foam and the air chambers.

Trial, warranty and returns

All Sleep Number mattresses come with a 100-night in-home trial and a 10-year limited warranty, according to the same release. The trial is not free to use, though. Under Sleep Number’s return terms, sending back a bed that came with its Doorstep, Premium or Ultimate delivery costs a $250 pickup fee, and adjustable bases are not part of the trial at all. Budget for the base too: a Sleep Number mattress on its own is only half of the bed.

Who should buy a Sleep Number bed

A Sleep Number makes the most sense for couples who disagree on firmness, because each side sets its own number. The Sleep Number ComfortMode, at $1,999 for a Queen, is the sensible way in. Skip the brand if you want a return that costs nothing, a mattress that works on your current box spring, or a plain foam or spring bed for less money.
