The ClimateCool is the Sleep Number for people who wake up hot. Underneath a 12-inch (30 cm) build with a 6-inch comfort layer and the usual adjustable air chambers, it moves air through the bed to cool each side separately, by up to 15 degrees according to Sleep Number. You set both the firmness and the cooling level from the SleepIQ app.

That active cooling is the whole point of the price. The comfort layers are deeper than on the ComfortNext, and Sleep Number gives this model its top marks for pressure relief and support, but you could get close to that feel for less. What you cannot get elsewhere in the range, short of the Climate360, is one partner sleeping cool while the other keeps their side as it is.

It is sold as a set: the Queen at $5,499 includes the Sleep Number Foundation, and a FlexFit smart adjustable base is the upgrade. Sizes start at Queen, so this is not a bed for a small guest room.

If you do not sleep hot, this is a lot of money for a feature you will switch off. If you do, and especially if only one of you does, it solves a problem no passive cooling cover really fixes.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the ClimateCool only to couples where heat, not firmness, ruins the night. For them it is the most effective cooling bed Sleep Number sells below the Climate360. Everyone else gets better value from the ComfortNext.”
