Who is behind Avocado

The Avocado brand launched in 2016. Its factory is older: it has been making mattresses since 1987, first under the Brentwood Home name, and the company says it is a Certified B Corporation and a 1% for the Planet member, with 14 retail stores of its own across the country (Avocado, our story). Corporate offices sit in Hoboken, New Jersey, while the mattresses are hand-tufted and assembled in Fullerton, California, from domestic and imported materials.

What goes into the mattresses

Almost every Avocado mattress pairs a pocketed coil unit with organic Dunlop latex, organic wool as the fire barrier and an organic cotton cover. The flagship Avocado Green Mattress carries GOTS certification on the finished product, plus OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, GREENGUARD Gold, MADE SAFE, EWG Verified and UL formaldehyde-free marks, and it contains no polyurethane foam, chemical flame retardants or fiberglass (Avocado Green Mattress product page). The latex comes from GOLS-certified plantations in India, Guatemala and Sri Lanka.

The range at a glance

The full lineup lists ten adult mattresses, from the Eco Organic to the Grand Luxe, plus a vegan model without wool and a set of crib mattresses (Avocado mattress collection).

Trial, warranty and returns

Terms differ by model, which is easy to miss. The Avocado Green comes with a one-year trial and a 25-year limited warranty, but a return costs a $99 fee plus the original shipping. The Eco Organic and Eco Organic Kids have a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty, also with a $99 return fee (Eco Organic product page). If you are on the fence between two feels, factor that fee in before ordering.
