The Layla Hybrid takes the brand’s flippable idea and puts a coil unit in the middle. It is 13 in tall, with copper-infused memory foam on both faces, a zoned airflow foam on each side and a core of individually wrapped coils. One side is medium-soft, the other medium-firm, and we score the pair at 5 out of 10 overall.

The coils change how it feels against the all-foam Layla. You float more on top and turn over more easily, and the double row of firmer perimeter coils keeps the edge from collapsing when you sit to put on socks. Layla lists between 674 and 1,313 coils depending on size, and the coils leave room for air to move, so it should run cooler than the foam model.

It suits couples and combination sleepers best, especially if one of you likes it softer than the other and you are willing to agree on a side. Side sleepers who want deep hug may still prefer the memory foam model.

Two drawbacks. The list price starts at $1,149 for a Twin and reaches $1,549 for a Queen, about $600 more than the foam mattress, and the warranty drops from lifetime to 10 years. You still get the 120-night trial and free shipping and returns.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Layla Hybrid is our pick for couples who want the flippable feel with more bounce and better edges. If you sleep alone on your side and want the deepest hug, the cheaper memory foam model does that job better.”
