The Big Fig Classic is the brand’s best-selling hybrid and the one most heavier sleepers should look at first. It is 12.5 in tall and built around heavy-duty 15-gauge pocketed coils, which Big Fig says gives 50% more coils than an average hybrid, with three layers of high-density foam above them and a perforated, gel-infused latex layer under a quilted cooling cover.

Big Fig calls the feel medium-firm and we put it at 6 out of 10. It cushions the shoulders and hips a little without letting the hips sink, so it works for back, side and combination sleepers. A firm 80 ILD foam rail runs around the coils, which keeps the edge solid when you sit on it.

The main reason to buy it is load. Big Fig rates the Classic for 1,200 lb of combined weight and says an outside lab rolled a 350 lb weight over it to simulate 20 years of use. Few mainstream mattresses publish any figure like that. The cover uses THERMOGEL cooling fibers, and the latex layer is perforated for airflow, so it should sleep cooler than an all-foam bed.

It is not cheap. A Queen lists at $2,049 before Big Fig’s frequent coupon codes, and the Twin starts at $1,609. It is also heavy, about 116 lb in Queen, and Big Fig wants a base rated for the same 1,200 lb. Every Classic is made in Cleveland and comes with a 120-night trial and a lifetime warranty.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“If you weigh over 250 lb or share the bed with someone who does, the Classic is the safest all-round pick in this price range. Lighter sleepers who like a soft, sinking feel will find better value elsewhere.”
