Who makes Sealy

Sealy has made mattresses since 1881, when it started in the town of Sealy, Texas, and it introduced the Posturepedic line in 1950, according to its about page. The same page says all of its mattresses are built in the USA. Sealy belongs to Somnigroup International together with Tempur-Pedic and Stearns & Foster, and its parent calls it America’s number one mattress brand.

The current lineup

On sealy.com the mattress range has a few clear tiers. The Posturepedic Spring is the entry innerspring. The Posturepedic Hybrid adds gel memory foam over wrapped coils with a firm coil edge. The Posturepedic Elite Hybrid comes as the 13-inch Albany II and the 14-inch High Point II, with an extra set of coils placed for targeted support; the High Point II adds a cooling cover.

Next to these sit the Sealy Icon, offered as a 12-inch tight top or a 14-inch pillow top, and the Cocoon by Sealy line, foam and hybrid mattresses that ship in a box. Many Sealy names you meet in stores, such as Lacey, Highland Manor, Lincoln Heights or Frisco, are models sold through retailers like Mattress Firm and Costco rather than on sealy.com, so their prices and terms are set by the retailer.

Where it sits on price

Sealy covers a wide band. A Queen Sealy Posturepedic Spring lists at $799 and a Queen Sealy Icon at $960, while the Sealy Posturepedic Elite Hybrid moves into the premium range at $1,999. Mattress Firm, owned by the same group, lists Sealy among its core brands, so you can usually try a model in a store before you buy.

Trial, warranty and delivery

Mattresses bought on sealy.com come with a 90-night trial (100 nights for Cocoon). Sealy asks you to sleep on the mattress for 30 nights first, and a return is refunded minus the return shipping fee. The limited warranty runs 10 years. Delivery is free: the main collections come with in-home delivery and setup, while Cocoon models ship to your door in a box.

Which Sealy to buy

For most sleepers the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid is the one to buy: gel memory foam over coils with a firm edge, at $999 for a Queen. On a tight budget the Sealy Posturepedic Spring gives you the classic innerspring feel for less. The Sealy Posturepedic Elite Hybrid earns its premium price only if you need firmer lumbar support, and Cocoon by Sealy suits you if you would rather have a boxed bed. Skip Sealy if you want a free return.
