Amerisleep's best-known 12-inch memory foam mattress, a true medium for side and combination sleepers.
The AS3 sits in the middle of the Amerisleep range, and the company calls its feel “perfect medium”. It is a 12-inch (30 cm) all-foam bed: Refresh cover, a thicker Bio-Pur plant-based memory foam comfort layer than on the AS2, a HIVE transition layer and a Bio-Core base.
We rate it 5 out of 10, matching Amerisleep’s own 5. Shoulders and hips sink in enough for side sleeping while the transition layer stops the middle of the body from bowing. Combination sleepers who switch between side and back during the night are the target, and it handles both well.
Bio-Pur recovers faster than classic memory foam, so you do not feel stuck. Motion isolation is strong, as on most all-foam beds. Stomach sleepers and people over about 250 lbs will usually be better off on the firmer AS2 or a hybrid.
Amerisleep shows a Queen at a list price of $1,249 and takes $500 off almost all the time. The 100-night trial is shorter than the yearlong trials of rivals; the 20-year warranty is longer.

“The AS3 is the Amerisleep we recommend to most people, especially side and combination sleepers. It balances cradle and support well, as long as you compare its sale price, not the list price.”
