Who is behind Bear

Bear was founded in Hoboken, New Jersey, and pitches itself to people with an active life: its line is “The Best Sleep for Your Active Life”. The site footer names Brooklyn Bedding, LLC as the company behind the store, and the mattresses are made in America using foreign and domestic components, shipping directly from the factory.

The feature Bear talks about most is Celliant, a fiber woven into several of its covers that turns body heat into infrared energy. The FDA has classed Celliant products as medical devices and general wellness products, which is the wording Bear uses on its product pages. Treat it as a cover feature rather than a reason to buy on its own.

The range

Bear sells all-foam and hybrid mattresses for adults, plus a kids line. The three models people search for most:

Above these sit the Pro, Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid and Bear Natural models for adults.

Trial, warranty and shipping

Bear mattresses ship free with FedEx, compressed and rolled, and the store quotes 5 to 8 business days. The trial runs 365 nights, with a 30-night break-in period before a return can be requested, and the warranty is a limited lifetime warranty. Foams are CertiPUR-US certified, the mattresses carry GREENGUARD Gold certification and the fire barrier is fiberglass-free.

In our test the Bear Original stands out on price: it is one of the cheaper well-known memory foam beds sold direct, with a firmer feel than most of its rivals.
