The Saatva Contour5 is the brand’s all-foam mattress, the model formerly sold as Loom & Leaf. It is 12.5 in (32 cm) tall and has no coils, so it gives the slow, close hug that people who like memory foam are looking for.

Under a knit cover made with organic cotton sits a lumbar layer with phase change material, then gel-infused memory foam with airflow channels, a 3-inch core of 5 lb high-density memory foam, a transition layer and a high-density foam base. Saatva calls the feel medium, 5 to 7 on its scale. Dense foam like this keeps its shape longer than the cheap boxed foams it competes with.

Side sleepers and couples are the clearest fit: the foam cushions hips and shoulders and absorbs a partner’s movement. Memory foam still traps more heat than coils and makes turning over slower, so hot sleepers and people who change position often are better served by one of the Saatva hybrids.

A Queen costs $3,179, more than the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, with white glove delivery, the 365-night trial and the lifetime warranty included.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Choose the Contour5 if you know you love memory foam and want a denser, longer-lasting version of it than a boxed foam bed offers. Couples who are woken by each other's movement will appreciate it most. If you sleep hot or want some bounce, the Memory Foam Hybrid costs less and sleeps cooler.”
