Background
About Kolcraft
Kolcraft Enterprises is a family business based in Chicago that has made baby products for four generations, and a family brand since 1946 according to its own product imagery. Its site describes the company as the number one crib mattress manufacturer in the US and as the maker of Sealy Baby crib mattresses, which it produces under license. This page covers the Kolcraft-branded models only; Sealy-branded crib mattresses sit with Sealy.
The Kolcraft range
| Model | Core | Size | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pediatric 800 | 80 extra-firm coils | Standard crib | 7 years |
| Sleepy Little One | 80 coils | Standard crib | 7 years |
| Pure Sleep Therapeutic 150 | 150 heavy-gauge coils | Standard crib | 10 years |
| Pediatric Mini | 2 in extra-firm fiber | Mini crib, 38 x 24 in | 1 year |
Kolcraft builds most standard models around a steel innerspring with a PermaDri waterproof cover that wipes clean. The company says its mattresses are GREENGUARD Gold certified, pass the ASTM crib mattress standards and are made in the USA from US and imported parts. Prices on kolcraft.com run from about $40 to $70, which puts them among the cheapest crib mattresses with a long warranty.
Where to buy
Kolcraft sells on its own site and points buyers to Walmart, Target and Amazon. Its pages also note that the Pediatric Mini only fits mini cribs that take a 38 by 24 inch pad, not standard cribs. For any of them, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a firm, flat surface, a fitted sheet and nothing else in the crib.
