Who makes King Koil

King Koil traces its roots to 1898, when Samuel Bronstein opened United States Bedding in St. Paul, Minnesota, with six employees; the King Koil name followed in the 1930s for an improved bedspring, according to the company’s own history. Two Malaysian groups, Kaiserkorp and Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor, bought the brand in 2015 and 2016, as Wikipedia summarizes from trade press. Its US headquarters and plant sit in Avondale, Arizona, and King Koil says its beds are designed and handcrafted in the USA and sold in more than 80 countries.

Two ways to buy

Most of the range is sold only through furniture and mattress stores, so kingkoil.com shows a “Queen retails starting at” figure and sends you to a retailer locator. Two lines are sold online: iBed and selected Scott Living by King Koil mattresses, which come with a 100-night trial and free shipping and returns. The store lines run from Modern Luxury (Queen from about $1,500) to the hand-tufted Intimate, the latex PureBliss and Natural, the gel-grid FLOWT and the SmartLife air bed.

The air mattresses

Many shoppers know King Koil for its air mattress. The inflatable King Koil Luxury Air Mattress is sold through the King Koil store on Amazon and on Walmart under license, in heights of 13, 16 and 20 inches, with a built-in pump and a 1-year warranty. It is built as a guest bed for occasional use.

What to know before you shop

Because the store lines are priced by each retailer, the same model can cost very different amounts from one showroom to the next, and model names can change between stores. Use the kingkoil.com starting price as a reference, ask which comfort level the floor model is, and check the warranty length on the law tag: it ranges from 10 years on most lines to 25 years on SmartLife.
