Background
About Naturepedic
From crib mattresses to adult beds
Naturepedic was founded in 2003 by Barry Cik, a board-certified environmental engineer, and he runs it with his sons Jeff and Jason (Naturepedic, about us). The company started with crib mattresses for parents who wanted to avoid polyurethane foam and chemical flame retardants, then moved into kids and adult mattresses. Everything is made in a GOTS-certified factory in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and sold online and in Naturepedic stores across the United States. The company is also behind two cheaper labels, Happsy for adults and Lullaby Earth for cribs.
Materials and certifications
The adult Serenade is a typical Naturepedic build: an 8-inch encased coil core under a 2-inch layer of GOLS-certified organic latex, a quilt of organic cotton and wool, and an organic cotton encasement. The product page lists GOTS, GOLS, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold and UL Formaldehyde Free (Serenade product page). Naturepedic also uses PLA batting made from plants in its quilts, which matters if you want a mattress that is entirely free of synthetic fibers.
